Overview
While in OrgChart, you may want to filter, highlight, or target records with conditional rules when a date field is within a specific range (i.e highlight all employees that have bee hired within the last 30 days) or when a number field is within a specific range (i.e flag employees with a specific salary range).
The following article provides information on:
Date range options
Date range options become available when a date field is selected while creating an interactive filter, interactive highlight, view rule, or custom chart filter. Select the date field, and then choose the 'date range' option as the comparison value. The following options are available:
| Option | Description |
| From dropdown | Select the beginning date or time period from which the date range starts. This can be from the last [n] number of days, or from a specific date. The FROM date or range must always be before the TO date or range. |
| To dropdown | Select the end of the date or time period from which the date range should end. This can be a relative date like TODAY, a specific date, or it can be left blank. |

If you do not see the options below for a field, ensure the field is classified as a date in Chart Settings: Fields & Formulas.
Number range options
Number range options become available when a number field is selected while creating an interactive filter, interactive highlight, view rule, or custom chart filter. Select the number field, and then choose the 'range' option as the comparison value. The following options are available:
| Option | Description |
| Starting value dropdown | Select the initial number to start the number range. Records with values that are greater than or equal to the starting value (but not surpassing the ending value) will be included. The starting value must be less than the ending value. |
| Ending value dropdown | Select the number that the range cannot exceed. Records with values that are less than or equal to (but not surpassing the starting value) will be included. The ending value must be more than the starting value. |

If you do not see the options below for a number field, ensure the field is classified as a number in Chart Settings: Fields & Formulas.
Date and number range examples
The following section provides examples of using date and number range options in different contexts. The following examples are available:
- Creating an interactive highlight using a date range
- Creating a view rule using a number range
- Creating a custom chart using a date range
Creating an interactive highlight using a date range
The following example provides step-by-step instructions for creating an interactive highlight that illuminates employees that have been hired in the last 30 days.
- Click on the Highlights tab on the right side bar.

The Highlights panel is displayed to the right side of the screen. Ensure you are on the My highlights tab.

Click on the + Create highlight button.
- Enter a name for the highlight the Highlight name text box.
- Click on the colored box to the right of the Choose color option, and then select a color for the highlight.
- In the first criteria block, click on the field (i.e. Hire date) dropdown menu, and then select a field from your dataset to create the filter.
- Click on the comparison dropdown menu to select a comparison value (i.e 'Date range').
- Enter a field value (i.e. 'From Last [n] days').
- Optionally, click on the + Add criteria button to add additional criteria to your highlight.
- Click on Save.
- The highlight is applied. Check the checkbox to the left of the highlight to disable it.
Creating a view rule using a number range
The following example provides step-by-step instructions for creating a view rule that gives employee records a flag when their compensation falls within a specific range.
- Open a shared view that can be modified.
- Click on Edit > Edit view, or click on the square pencil icon to start editing a view.
- Click on the + Add rule button. The rule editor is displayed.
- Select a number field (i.e 'Compensation') from the Field dropdown menu.
- Click on the Comparison dropdown menu, and then select the range option.
- Enter the minimum compensation value for your range in the Starting value text box.
- Enter the maximum compensation value for your range in the Ending value text box.
- Navigate to the employee box styling section of the rule editor (for position-based charts), or just click on the Box properties option on the left hand side.
- Check the box flag checkbox.
- Check the set color checkbox, and then select a color for the flag.
- Click on Ok, and then click on Save.
- Employee records that have a compensation within the defined range have a flag applied to their records for the selected view. Click on the checkmark at the top of the View rules panel, or click on the Finish editing button to preserve the changes.
Creating a custom chart using a date range
The following example provides step-by-step instructions for creating a custom chart that only includes employees that had a start date in Q1 of 2025.
- Click on the Edit button, and then click on Create custom chart.
- Choose the record at the top of the chart, and how many levels beneath that record should be included in the custom chart.
- Hover over the section that states "Would you like to apply filters to narrow the focus of your chart?" and then click on the pencil icon that appears.
- Select a date field (i.e 'Start date') from the Field dropdown menu.
- Click on the Comparison dropdown menu, and then select the date range option.
- Click on the From dropdown menu, and then select the specific date option.
- Type a date into the text box to the right, or click on the calendar icon and select a specific date for the start of the range.
- Click on the To dropdown menu, and then select the specific date option. Enter or select a date for the end of the range.
- Optionally, check the include filtered managers checkbox, so that records that meet the criteria, but report to managers who do not, are still included in the chart.
- Click on Save, and then on Create.
- A custom chart is generated with records with a start date within the defined date range.
