Overview
Plan owners and collaborators can update position-driven plans using Table view. In Table view, users can make mass edits to position and employee records, while viewing position-driven plan data in a tabular format.
The following article provides information on:
Accessing Table view
- Open a position-driven plan.
- Click on the Table option in the top right-hand corner. The current position-based plan is displayed in Table view.

Search, filter, and make updates to employee and position records in Table view. Click on the Chart option (to the left of the Table option) to return to the Chart view of the plan.
Navigating Table view
Plan owners, collaborators, and viewers can search Table view using basic and advanced search. Users can also modify what data is displayed in the table. The following options are available:
Option Description Columns Click to toggle the fields to display as columns in the table. By default the following fields are displayed:
- Position title
- Assignments (employees)
- Staffing target
- Supervisory Position
- Position ID
- Department (Position)
- Location (Position)
Note
Position title and assignments cannot be removed nor re-ordered.
Hover over a column header and then click on the up or down arrow to adjust the alphanumeric sort. Hover over a column header, and then click on the filter icon to filter the data by the selected field. Values that are selected will be included in the table after clicking on Apply. While in Table view, plan owners and collaborators can make changes to plan records. The following actions are available while in Table view:
Action Description Select position(s) Check the checkbox to the left of a position to select it. You can select multiple positions at a time. Edit position Edit the selected position(s). Create position Create a new position. Click on this option while another position is selected to inherit field values from that position.
Note
If multiple positions are selected, only field values from the first selected position will be inherited.
Clone position Clone up to 5 copies of the selected position.
Note
Clone is only available when a single position is selected.
Unassign Unassign employees in the selected position(s). Unassigned employees appear in the Employee list. Release Release employees in the selected position(s). Released employees appear in the Employee list. Close Close selected position(s). If the position had employees, you will need to choose to unassign or release those employees. Reopen Reopen selected position(s).
Note
When reopening a position, the employees that were assigned to the position at the time of closure will not automatically be reassigned back to the position.
Mass actions in Table view
While in Table view, plan owners and collaborators can make updates to multiple position and employee records at a time. You can review the changes made using Table view in the Changes panel. The following mass actions are available:
- Create multiple positions
- Edit multiple positions
- Unassign or release multiple employees from positions
- Close multiple positions
- Reopen multiple positions
Creating multiple positions
To create multiple positions in Table view:
- Click on the + Create position button in Table view.
- Click on the How many position copies would you like to create dropdown, and then select the number of copies.
- Enter the following information for the positions:

Position Title

Position ID - This will be generated by default, though you can enter one, if you'd like. When creating multiple copies of a position, the position ID will be automatically incremented by 1.

Reports to position

Position Title
- Optionally, enter additional details such as:

Staffing target

Department
-
Position location

Position start date

Position end date

Position Budget - Position budget can be updated if it is a mapped field. If the position budget field is system generated, then this field cannot be directly updated. Instead, you can update cost band max and staffing target to see the position budget update accordingly. Reference the Compensation budget planning article for more information.

- Click on Save.
Editing multiple positions
To edit multiple positions in Table view:
- Check the checkbox to the left of the position you would like to edit, and then click on the Edit position button.
- The edit position modal is displayed. Note that when selecting multiple positions, there may be multiple values for one field. You can select an existing value, or enter a new one.
- Enter values for each field that you'd like to update. Edits made in the edit position modal apply to all of the positions that you selected.
- Click on Save.
Unassigning or releasing multiple employees
To unassign or release multiple employees at a time from Table view:

Check the checkbox to the left of a position containing employees you would like to unassign or release, and then click on the corresponding action button at the top of the page.
Note
If a position has multiple assignees, and you only want to unassign/release one of them, drill into the position, and then check the checkbox to the left of the employee you'd like to unassign/release.
- Click on the Unassign or Release option, and then confirm the action in the next dialog.
Closing multiple positions
To close multiple positions in Table view:
- Check the checkbox to the left of the positions you would like to close, and then click on the Close button.

If the position had employees assigned to it, the Close position dialog is displayed. Choose to either release or unassign the assigned employees when the position is closed.
Note
Closed positions still appear in Table view. To filter closed positions out of Table view, add the column field 'Position status,' and then use the filter option to view only positions with the 'Active' status.
Reopening multiple positions
To reopen multiple positions in Table view:
- Check the checkbox to the left of the closed positions that you would like to reopen, and then click on the Reopen button.

The Reopen position modal is displayed. Optionally, you can make updates to the position while reopening it. Click on Reopen.
Note
Employees that were assigned to the position at the time of closure are not automatically reassigned back to the position when it's reopened.
