Audience: Administrators Edition: Plus and Pro
Overview
OrgChart allows admins to map budget and compensation fields for position-driven charts. Like other fields, budget and compensation fields can be used for views, displayed in boxes, profiles, or used in custom formulas. Mapping budget and compensation fields enable you to leverage default plan metrics and visualize employee cost impact on position budgets in position-based plans. If you do not have all of the budget or compensation fields available for mapping, OrgChart can generate them for you. The following article provides information on:
Mapping budget and compensation fields
The following budget and compensation fields are available for admins to map in OrgChart:
-
Employee cost center
-
Employee compensation - When mapped, this field is used in the Salary rollup default metric in position-driven plans.
-
Employee compensation YTD
-
Position cost band minimum - When mapped, this field represents the min cost band (per employee) in the position modal while Planning.
-
Position cost band midpoint
-
Position cost band maximum - When mapped, this field represents the max cost band (per employee) in the position modal while Planning. This field can also be used in conjunction with staffing target to generate a position budgeted salary, if one does not exist in your data.
-
Position budgeted salary - When mapped, this field is used in the Position budget rollup default metric and represents the position budget for each position in position-driven plans.
- Position cost center
Important
Fields that are mapped from your data are not derived from other fields or system generated. Fields that are not derived can be modified directly while in Planning. Please reference the Updating position-driven plans article for more information.
Note
When cost bands are enabled, you must populate all cost band options. If you do not have all cost band fields to map, you can generate the ones you don't have. Please reference the generating cost band data section for more information.
Generating budget and compensation fields
If you do not have certain budget and compensation fields in your data, OrgChart can generate them for you. OrgChart can generate the following budget and compensation fields:
-
Position cost band minimum - This field can be generated for you, if cost band midpoint is mapped. When generated, this field represents the min cost band (per employee) in the position modal while Planning.
-
Position cost band midpoint - This field can be generated for you, if cost band minimum and cost band maximum are mapped. The generated value is the average of cost band minimum and maximum.
-
Position cost band maximum - This field can be generated for you, if cost band midpoint is mapped. When generated, this field represents the max cost band (per employee) in the position modal while Planning. This field can also be used in conjunction with staffing target to generate a position budgeted salary, if one does not exist in your data.
- Position budgeted salary - This field can be generated for you, if cost band maximum is mapped or system generated and staffing target is mapped or system generated. When generated, this field is used in the Position budget rollup default metric and represents the position budget for each position in position-driven plans.
The following sections provide information on how to generate the budget and compensation fields above.
Generating cost band data
The following section provides step-by-step instructions for generating the Position cost band minimum and Position cost band maximum fields from a mapped cost band midpoint.
- In Chart Settings: Mapping, toggle Use cost band data ON.
- Click on the Position cost band midpoint dropdown menu, and then select a field (i.e cost band midpoint) from the dataset.
- Click on the Position cost band minimum dropdown menu, and then select the system calculate for me option. An editable equation of [cost band midpoint] x 75% appears to the right.
- Optionally, modify the percentage by which to multiple the cost band midpoint. This is how the value for Position cost band minimum will be derived.
- Click on the Position cost band maximum dropdown menu, and then select the system calculate for me option. An editable equation of [cost band midpoint] x 125% appears to the right.
- Optionally, modify the percentage by which to multiple the cost band midpoint. This is how the value for Position cost band maximum will be derived.
- Click on Save, and then Refresh the base chart.
Note
The Position cost band minimum and Position costband maximum fields are automatically generated as a number type field, displaying two decimal places and containing a prefix ($) and suffix (USD). You can modify the field properties to this field in the Chart Settings: Fields and formulas panel.
