Overview
OrgChart can pull positional data from HR systems to generate position-driven charts. If OrgChart does not yet directly integrate with your HR system, you can upload Excel or CSV files containing position and employee data, in order to create a position-driven OrgChart.
The following article provides information on:
Note
If your source HR system does not support position-to-position reporting hierarchies, you can still generate a position-driven chart from your HR data. Reference the Creating position-driven charts from employee HR data for more information.
Formatting position-driven flat files
In order to create a position-driven chart from an HR system that has position-to-position reporting hierarchies, OrgChart needs to data fields: one for positions and one for employees.
The following section provides details on the information that must be included in these data files, so that OrgChart can successfully create a position-driven chart.
Formatting an employee file
- Export a file containing all of the employee data that you want to include in OrgChart. The following fields are required:
- EmployeeID - Field containing the unique identifier for each employee
- Employee PositionID - Field containing each employee's position ID
The following additional fields are suggested, but not required:
- Title
- Full Name
- First Name
- Last Name
- Employee compensation
Include any additional employee related fields that you would like to view or use for conditional formatting in OrgChart.
2. Ensure the data file does not contain formulas. Field values derived from formulas will not display as expected in OrgChart.
3. Remove all metadata from the flat file.
4. Save the employee data file to your computer.
Formatting a position file
- Export a file containing all of the position data that you want to include in OrgChart. The following fields are required:
- PositionID - Field containing the unique identifiers for each position
- Parent PositionID - Field containing the position IDs that each position reports to
- Position title - Field containing each position's title
The following additional fields are suggested, but not required:
- Position division
- Position location
- Staffing target - Field associated with the ideal number of holders (employees ) per position. If you do not have this field, it will be generated for you.
- Position cost band min
- Position cost band mid
- Position cost band max
- Position budget
2. Ensure the data file does not contain formulas. Field values derived from formulas will not display as expected in OrgChart.
3. Remove all metadata from the flat file.
4. Save the employee data file to your computer.
