Overview
Staffing target is a number representing the desired number of employees for each position. Staffing target is a field that can either be mapped from your data or system generated on position-driven base charts. The staffing target field is used in other system calculations, such as position budgeted salary (when position budgeted salary is not mapped), allocation, and allocation ratio.
The following article provides information on:
Mapping or generating staffing target
The following section provides step-by-step instructions for mapping or generating a staffing target.
- Open the Chart Settings: Mapping panel for your position-driven base chart.
- Click on the Staffing target dropdown menu.
- Select a field from your data to map to Staffing target, or select the System calculate for me option.
- Click on Save and then Refresh.
Note
When the Staffing target is system generated, the value is derived from the number of employee holders in each position when the data is synced. If a position is empty when the data is synced, the system generated Staffing target for that position is set to 1.
Staffing target and system calculations
Some system calculations rely on the Staffing target field. The following calculations use staffing target:
Position budgeted salary - This field is used to indicate a budget for each position. This field is leveraged in position-driven plans when doing budget and compensation planning. When the position budgeted salary field is system generated, OrgChart uses Staffing target x Position cost band maximum to generate this number.
Allocation - This field is auto-generated and used to represent how staffed a given position is. The number is represented as a decimal. A position with one employee holder and a staffing target of 2 has an allocation of .5.
Allocation Ratio - This field is auto-generated an used to represent the ratio between the number of employees in a given position and the desired number of holders (staffing target). The number is represented in a fraction. A position with two employee holders and a staffing target of 1 has an allocation ratio of 2/1.
